Yarda Hashabbat holds a deeply personal place in my heart. The music was composed by my grandfather, David Zehavi, with lyrics by Yehoshua Rabinov. Growing up with this song woven into family gatherings, I wanted to honor its intimacy while bringing it to new life through choral arrangement.
In this arrangement for the Hebrew Choir Berlin, I preserved my grandfather’s original melody while expanding its harmonic landscape through layered vocal lines. Each voice contributes to the song’s emotional depth, balancing between simplicity and richness, and between the secular and the holiness of Shabbat. Conducting and arranging this song felt like bridging generations—my grandfather’s music resonating through new voices, carrying our shared story forward.
